Advancement Via individual Determination (AVID)
What is AVID?
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a college readiness system. AVID supports our school goals and district mission and vision by providing research-based strategies for rigorous teaching and learning that empower students with academic and 21st century skills to maximize postsecondary career options. AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
The AVID Elective course is offered to students in grades 9-12. Students are selected for participation in the AVID Elective class through an application and screening process that includes a review of academic performance, a student application, and an interview.
Students who are part of the AVID Elective class have individual determination to reach their goal of attending post-secondary education. The AVID Elective class provides students with academic tools, access to resources, and the structure to thrive in rigorous courses and post-secondary plans. Students learn organizational skills, develop critical thinking by asking probing questions, get academic help from peers and tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college and career success attainable.
