Dual Credit
There are multiple ways to earn college credits while in high school!
Early College Credit, Start College Now, Transcripted Credit, Advanced Placement credits... just to name a few!
-
- Start College Now is the program that connects high schools with Wisconsin Technical Colleges.
- Early College Credit is the program that connects high schools with public and private Wisconsin Colleges and Universities.
Both programs are designed to allow high school Juniors and Seniors to earn college credit at a postsecondary institution before graduating high school. This helps students maintain growth in their chosen career pathway once they have exhausted the high school course offerings in that pathway.
-
- Have you taken all of the available ETHS courses in that career pathway?
- Example: Have you taken AP Psychology in high school before requesting to take another Psychology course at a postsecondary institution?
- Are you able to provide your own transportation to that postsecondary institution if necessary?
- Do you meet the minimum GPA requirements and have not recently failed any ETHS courses?
- Have you taken all of the available ETHS courses in that career pathway?
-
Please read carefully!
- Pick up an application in ETHS Counseling Office and fill out the application in its entirety. It is not the responsibility of ETHS to make sure the application is filled out completely and correctly.
- Connect with an admissions specialist at the college you would like to attend and find out:
- How can they support you in your future goals?
- What courses are you eligible to take (you can find your unofficial transcript in skyward and you should know your ACT score to help them best guide you).
- When are the courses you’re interested in offered? Ex. Fall or Spring Semester, online or in person, what campus is it offered, what times/days are they offered, what books/materials are needed, ect.
- SCN/ECC Application Deadlines: To Be Submitted to the ETHS Counseling Office
- For Fall semester of the next school year: application due March 1st
- For Spring semester of the same school year: application due October 1st
-
- Watch your email that you provided on your application. The postsecondary institution will be emailing you (the student), directly.
- When selecting college courses, remember that the times/dates of college courses do not always align with the ETHS schedule. The ETHS schedule is given first priority to make sure you complete all graduation requirements.
- You will be responsible for registering for your courses by following the process of the college. Again, watch your email you provided on your application.
- Once you have registered for your courses, provide a copy of your college schedule to your ETHS School Counselor.
- You must complete all of the college’s requirements for admission and are responsible for obtaining all related course materials (books/uniforms/etc).
- Once the class begins:
- You must pass the course in order for the course(s) to be paid for by ETCSD. If you fail the course, you/your family will be responsible for payment.
- You are responsible for transportation to/from the college if needed.
- You are responsible for communicating with your professor(s) any time you must miss a class. Please note - many courses or colleges have attendance requirements. Please consult your college for their policy.
- If you choose to drop the course, you must arrange that with the college and follow their drop policy. Please note - colleges often have fees associated with dropping a course. The responsibility of payment for dropping is on the student/family. Please provide confirmation of the drop to your ETHS School Counselor.
If you are interested in either of these programs, pick up an application in the ETHS Counseling Office.
